to your question(s) will be posted on this page so that everyone will
have the answer.
What
is Open Water Swimming?
Open Water Swimming, by definition, is a swim
in any natural body of water including rivers, lakes, or an ocean. This
web site focuses on long distance and marathon distance swims. Long
distance swimming events are events where the distance is between 1
mile (1.5 km) and 10 miles (16 km).
What
is Marathon Swimming?
Marathon Swimming, by definition, is a swim
in any natural body of water including rivers, lakes, or an ocean of
a minimum of 10 miles (16 km). It is permitted to grease the body before
a swim, use goggles, wear a cap, ear plugs, and a bathing suit. However,
no artificial aid of any kind is allowed nor is any physical contact
by another person allowed.
What
is Merch?
Merch is the abbreviation for Merchandise. Unfortunately, the
word Merchandise would not fit on the tab. That is what we get for designing
the site graphic width standards before adding the words. Note: If you
hold your mouse over the tab long enough it will tell you the full name.
Not that anyone has that much patience.
Why
are all the E-mail addresses on your web site spelled out?
The simple answer is Spam Bots. Spam bots, also known as E-mail harvesters,
E-mail address harvesters, crawlers or spiders, are quite probably the
single most insidious manner by which spammers collect the E-mail addresses
of innocent victims. In brief, most websites have at least one E-mail
address viewable to the public, even if just as a contact address for
information or inquiries. Many websites show many E-mail addresses -
not just their own, but also those of visitors to their sites. Examples
of these include message boards, guest books, archives of e-zine discussion
lists, and so forth. It is not uncommon for websites to not publicly
reveal an E-mail address, yet for it to still be simply found in the
HTML source code of a web page. Spam bots are software used by spammers
to automatically "crawl" the web, (and newsgroups, chat rooms,
IRC, instant messager and other contact databases) and locate any and
every E-mail address they can find. They then record all these harvested
E-mail addresses into a database to be used for plying the evil trade
of the spammer. How do you stop spam bots from finding your E-mail address.
If you have a web site, do not put any E-mail addresses on it. You will
